??? CRAGMONT ROCK
.
January 6, 1926: "With the final warrant issued today by City Auditor H.L. Traub, the City of Berkeley comes into legal ownership of Cragmont Rock Park. This park of about four acres, situated at an elevation of about 900 feet, is one of beauty spots of Berkeley. The view from the lookout station erected on the summit of the large rock is unsurpassed in all the East Bay region.
The park was taken over in 1921 under the so-called lease contract plan with option to buy, at the end of the lease period. This right the Council exercised at its last meeting. The sale price of the park was $15,000 which with interest and taxes brought the total paid by the city to $18,432." (Berkeley Daily Gazette)
