July 6, 1934: "Forest Supervisor J. R. Hall announced today a new lookout station will be built on Pine Crest Peak near Pine Crest by July 15. The high fire hazard around Pine Crest will be looked after from the new lookout station. D. Salazar has the contract for hauling the materials to the site." (Stockton Independent)
July 27, 1934: "Supervisor J. R. Hall of the Stanislaus National Forest announced that thirty men started work this week on two forest roads, for which $16,000 is expected to be required. Hall expects the projects to be completed by October 1st.
One group of fifteen men is extending the Herring Creek Road to the Pine Crest Peak lookout station, a distance of eight miles. The lookout station itself will be completed this week." (The Modesto Bee and News-Herald)
