September 27, 1956: "A forest fire, apparently caused by someone putting out a cigaret on a log, broke out Sunday afternoon, September 16, just north of the Bald Mountain lookout in Mono County and burned for several hours before it was brought under control by forest service personnel and three deer hunters.
The fire was first reported by Mrs. Gloria Lasky at the lookout, Ernie Lasky, fire patrolman in that area, obtained the services three hunters, Milton Rutledge of Palmdale, and Steven C. Armstrong and Ralph W. Clutter, both of Lancaster, and brought the fire under control." (Reno Evening Gazette)

August 8, 1969: "The Bridgeport District of the Toiyabe National Forest is happy to announce the addition of the USFS Bald Mountain fire lookout, manned by Mr. and Mrs. Smallwood for the Inyo National Forest, as a new member of the Toiyabe National Forest's Fire detection system, says H. Marion Hysell, Fire Control Officer on the Bridgeport Ranger District.
'Through a cooperative agreement between the Inyo and Toiyabe National Forests, the Bald Mountain fire lookout will help the Bridgeport District in the detection of lightning and man-caused fires on our 'almost inaccessible' southern front,' Hysell added.
The Bald Mountain lookout will also be providing the Toiyabe with valuable fire weather information to be used in the forest service fire danger prediction system for the southern portion of the Bridgeport District." (Mason Valley News)
August 12, 1969: "Bald Mountain fire lookout in central Mono County is being operated under a joint agreement between the Inyo and Toiyabe national forests, it has been announced.
H. Marion Hysell, fire control officer for the Bridgeport district, Toiyabe National Forest, said the lookout is being operated under a cooperative agreement.
"The Bald Mountain fire lookout will help in the detection of lightning and man-caused fires on our 'almost inaccessible' southern front," Hysell said.
The lookout will also contribute data to be used in the fire danger prediction system for the southern part of the Bridgeport district.
In addition to being located in different national forests, the two areas are located in separate U.S. Forest Service regions." (Nevada State Journal)
