May 25, 1922: "A new trail is being built from Opid's camp to the top of San Gabriel Peak, which is the highest peak in the range, 6151 feet above sea level.
It is contemplated to use that peak as a fire lookout. The trail will be completed about July 1." (The Los Angeles Times)

February 11, 1930: "San Gabriel peak lookout station is located on a peak by the same name. It is situated about one and one-half miles airline from the summit of Mt. Lowe and can be reached by trail from Mt. Lowe and Mt. Wilson. The lookout observer during the past season was Frank J. Mathys." (Monrovia News-Post)
