March 16, 1934: "Three of the 10 peaks at present have lookout stations. They are Kellar, Strawberry and Tahquitz. The fourth present station, on Black mountain, will be transferred to Barton peak, above Banning." (Corona Daily Independent)
March 29, 1934: "A lookout tower will be built on Barton peak by men from the Vista Grande camp in addition to road construction near Black mountain and Hurley Flats." (The San Bernardino County Sun)
September 21, 1939: "Mr. Plummer said that two direct lightning 'strikes' on forest service lookout towers have occurred during the past two days. Lightning hit the Barton peak station in the San Jacinto region at 4:20 p.m. Tuesday, stopping the watch of the lookout, Ronald Swart. The second 'strike' was at Keller peak tower about noon yesterday. The towers telephone fuses were burned out." (The San Bernardino County Sun)
