November 3, 1944: "(O-Plans-Master-Project Work Budget) Attached find building needs and classification as to permanence for 27 stations on the Modoc National Forest, based on the detection study and fire replanning study of 1940.
Name of Station - Mahogany Ridge Lookout.
Type of building - Combination living quarters and observation tower.
Utilities and other buildings - 1. Garage, wood and tools storage J type.
2. Windcharger for power.
3. Latrine.
Remarks - Never occupied, but needed for detection as soon as site is made accessible and materials are available. (From Acting Forest Supervisor, Modoc to Regional Forester)
1947: "Mahogany Ridge, a detection point long proposed but never manned, is included in the potential statistics. Indications are that it would be more valuable than Sugar Hill and Boyd Hill as most of its seen area is out of range of other lookouts so the percentage of firsts to possibles would be high as in the case of Blue Mountain." (Review of the 1947 fire season)
