MARKLEEVILLE

May 11, 1940: "A spike camp also has been established near the Markleeville ranger station, officials said, to complete the building, road construction and telephone line to the new lookout station to be established on a high peak southeast of Markleeville. Work on the lookout installation started in the fall but was suspended because of weather conditions.
The lookout point will cover the Wolf Creek area, which in the past has constituted a threatening forest fire hazard. The new station probably will be completed and ready about June 1." (Nevada State Journal)
