November 26, 1934: "A new lookout is under construction at San Rafael peak to replace the temporary station supplied for the past fire season." (Oxnard Daily Courier)
June 30, 1945: "Improvements were made at San Rafael Lookout, southwest of Flintridge, by the installation of a fence to afford protection for the radio equipment installed there and to safeguard the premises from vandalism. A power line was extended to this location to provide current for the radio apparatus and domestic purposes." (Los Angeles County Forestry Department Annual Report - Fiscal Year ending 6/30/1945)
December 15, 1960: "Supervisor Warren M. Dorn announced the Board of Supervisors has approved the issuance of a license to the city of Glendale to use the county-owned San Rafael lookout tower site for installation of a radio receiver in connection with extended operations of the Glendale Fire Dept.
The site consists of an acre of land and a lookout tower formerly operated by the County Fire Dept. in the San Rafael Mountains.
A Civil Defense siren and a pole-mounted radio receiver will remain operable by the county and federal government during Glendale's use of the property, Dorn said." (The Van Nuys News)
