PEAVINE RIDGE
Eldorado County - Eldorado National Forest
August 22, 1935: "Joseph Flynn, fire lookout on the Peavine Ridge in the Pacific district of Eldorado Forest, stepped backward through a trap door in the lookout tower and fell 12 feet to the first landing while scanning the horizon with binoculars for fire Thursday afternoon.
Flynn was so interested in his work that he did not notice the trap door was open.
He received a bad bruise on his elbow and injured one of his knees, to what extent doctors will be unable to learn until the swelling subsides." (The Mountain Democrat)

February 23, 1998: "Joe Flynn worked as lookout-fireman at Peavine Ridge where in the early 1930's: 'Flynn's shelter was a tent -- and the only bathing facility was a redwood tank at Chicken Hawk Springs. 'That spring was cold, and you got out in a hurry.' " (Mountain Democrat)
