November 7, 1938: "Fanned by winds which at times attained a velocity of 75 miles an hour, scores of grass and brush fires broke out in various sections of northern San Diego county today and in the area between Tijuana and Ensenada, Lower California.
Homes of many ranchers were endangered by the swiftly rushing flames. Windows in the ranger lookout station at Woodson were blown out by the high winds." (The San Bernardino County Sun)

June 7, 1962: "The gold in them thar hills apparently is at the top of them.
The state public works board approved the purchase of a 400-acre hilltop in San Diego county to be used for the Mt. Woodson Lookout and radio repeater site.
Originally authorized nine years ago, at a cost of $4000, the board's action this week approved purchase of the site for $26,927.
H.C. Vincent, property acquisition officer for the board, said the increased use of electronic equipment has created a big demand for strategically located mountain tops. As a result, competition for the lofty sites is keen and the prices are climbing." (The Mountain Democrat and Placerville Times)
