November 9, 1932: "It is our intention to build a lookout house on the peak before the beginning of the fire season next spring. The placing of a lookout on the peak will add greatly to the efficiency of our protection force since we will be able to get very detailed visibility over practically the entire country from Hat Creek to Black's Mountain. It is our desire to connect this point up by telephone with our main telephone system. In order to do this the most desirable route to follow is to construct a metallic circuit line connecting with the line we already have on your Hat Creek Line poles and extend it about three miles, farther west; we will then go almost directly north to the peak. It is our desire, therefore, to get permission from you to use your poles for the above mentioned purpose for approximately an additional three miles. I note that there are two vacant places for pins on your cross arms. If it is satisfactory with you to grant the Forest Service this privilege we would agree to stub the poles on this part of the line. As you are aware the poles used were lodge pole and they have been in the ground about six or seven years they are pretty well decayed."
