BLUE MOUNTAIN
Calaveras County - Stanislaus National Forest > California Department of Forestry
September 29, 1922: "Yesterday morning I set fire to a very small pile of brush just in front of my camp. Had no idea that Blue Mt. could pick it up but thought I would time him just for luck. Six minutes after I touched the match to the brush Lookout Bassham called up:
'Small smoke raising close to your camp.' And 'small' was highly descriptive. -- Bashful McCaslin --" (California District News Letter)

October 16, 1927: "Mrs. W.B. Collet of Los Angeles and a party of five children, who are camped at the Big Trees near Dorrington, through presence of mind probably saved herself and the children much discomfort last Thursday, when they got lost in the hills near their camp.
The party had walked a short distance from camp, down a creek, and wandered along its banks, and when they started to return, found they were lost. They climbed to the top of a high ridge, south of the grove, and as night came on, cleared two large areas, and started two fires about thirty feet apart.
Lookout J. Turner, at the forest ranger's lookout station on Blue Mountain, noted the smoke and sent Fire Guard Gardner, stationed at Dorrington, to the scene to investigate. Gardner found the woman and children, and guided them back to camp." (Modesto News-Herald)
