June 22, 1926: "Brought under control by a fire squad of 12 men, the forest fire that has been burning for three days on Eylar mountain, and which today threatened to spread to a manganese mine, was reported extinguished.
More than 1000 acres of brush were burned near Devil Hoe canyon before the flames were brought under control, John McGlinchey, Alameda county fire warden, reported. The blaze was on the Alameda-Santa Clara county line.
Charles Scott, lookout on Eylar mountain, extinguished a prairie fire Sunday afternoon which now is thought to have started the larger blaze." (Oakland Tribune)
