October 5, 1923: "At the request of State Fire Ranger E. E. Roach, the board of supervisors agreed to pay the cost of material and transportation thereof for a steel lookout tower fifty feet in height to be erected on a concrete base in Cave mountain, near American Camp ranger station. The proposed tower will take the place of that which was to have been erected on Mount Elizabeth under an agreement between the county and the state forester." (Stockton Daily Evening Record)
October 13, 1923: "A steel tower fifty feet in height, to be used by the forest service as a lookout station in watching for fires during the summer months, is being erected on Cave mountain, in the American Camp district." (Stockton Daily Evening Record)
