June 10, 1941: "The board ordered that they would contribute $200 to assist in paying expenses of maintaining a lookout station on Dickinson Hill, provided Merced County would contribute a like amount." (The Modesto Bee and News-Herald)
June 25, 1941: "The eastern section of Stanislaus County and the adjacent territory in Merced County is receiving fire protection during the harvesting of grain as a result of the erection of a lookout station six miles east of Montpeliter, on the old Dickenson school property. The place is now owned by Fred Robinson.
A thirty foot tower has been erected and Robert Johnson of Oakland, who has been engaged to fill the job under the forestry service, went on duty Saturday.
Supervisors of the two counties have appropriated funds for the communications with the fire station in Montpellier, where Raymond Laughlin is in charge." (The Modesto Bee and News-Herald)
