November 27, 1930: "A forest ranger lookout station on Fremonts Peak and direct phone communication from there to the courthouse offices of Ranger Hiram Wyman have been discussed by San Benito County supervisors. Tentative plans call for the state to furnish the phone line and the county to aid in constructing the lookout within two years." (Plumas Independent)
April 4, 1931: "In cooperation with the state division of parks, a lookout house will shortly be erected on Fremont Peak which is located within the area of the state park. This house will be constructed of native rock in conformity with it's surroundings. (Fresno Bee)
April 8, 1931: "Construction work on the new telephone line from San Juan to Fremont Peak for a fire lookout station was started today, with a state official on hand to check over the plans for the line.
The official is Frank Thompson of Palo Alto, state forest inspector, who was also going over the program of work contemplated in this region by State Forest Ranger H.E. ("Hi") Wyman.." (Santa Cruz Evening News)
February 2, 1934: "Improvements got underway at Fremont's peak today preparatory to the State naming the historic peak as a State park.
W.I. Hawkins representative of both State and National Parks, declared titles have been cleared and deeds signed which transfer the major portion of the property to San Benito County, which in turn deeded it to the State Park Commission.
Fire trails, construction and establishment of a fire outlook building, trails, paths and roadways come under present improvement plans, Hawkins stated.
Preliminary work started today and a crew of 30 or more CWA men are expected to be working by next week-end." (Oakland Tribune)
