February 15, 1935: "The Pine Hill project, which includes the construction of a road to the top of Pine Hill and a lookout station at the summit, is under way. Twenty-five C.C.C. boys, under leadership of Malcolm Dixon and Willard Austin are doing the work, which has been hindered to some extent by quarantine and inclement weather." (The Folsom Telegraph)
September 19, 1935: "A crowd of some fifteen CCC boys with a manager and telephone man have been putting a telephone line through Lotus the past week for the forest service, the line is to extend to Pine Hill in the Rescue vicinity where a lookout tower will be built by the forest service in case of forest fires." December 5, 1935: "The Pine Hill Lookout in the Rescue District, an ECW project, is complete except for the buildings. More than 100 miles of telephone line have been installed during the past summer by a CCC crew for the Division of Forestry. The telephone lines are between the headquarters at Camp Danaher, and various lookouts in the area under the State Forest Ranger's administration. (The Mountain Democrat)
June 25, 1936: "The Lookout station on Pine Mountain can be seen from a long distance, as work on the tower is being done now." (The Mountain Democrat)
May 7, 1937: "The Pine Hill road is being graded and cattle guards completed by state crews. Anyone wishing to drive to the lookout station may do so with comfort this year." (The Folsom Telegraph)
June 11, 1937: "Pine Hill now has a summer lookout man, La Verne Campbell." (The Folsom Telegraph)
June 2, 1938: "Evening lights are again shining from Pine Hill lookout station. Mr and Mrs. Oswald and family are stationed there for the summer." (The Mountain Democrat)
