1934: The Los Angeles County Forestry Department constructed a 60-foot steel tower with a steel cab at this site.
June 30, 1934: "Lookout towers were erected on Verdugo and West San Rafael Peaks, greatly increasing the efficiency of the detection system in the La Crescenta - La Canada Valley, and along the Angeles Forest front."
