April 9, 1931: "A lookout station on Mt. Ararat, four and a half miles from here, and the highest peak in this vicinity, has been established by the Forest Service of the State of California. This station will be known as Sierra Vista Lookout, and the telephone line and road improvements were completed this week under the direction of Inspector Earl Barron, State Ranger Ray Grove and Assistant Dave Serra.
The lookout will be used for fires, and is advantageously situated near the timber belt at an elevation of 2500 feet. At present a "crow's nest" in a 60-foot high tree is provided, but a steel tower is expected to be erected next year. A house is also being erected to be occupied by the lookout man, who is expected to take up his duties about May 1." (Oakland Tribune)
