August 26, 1968: "By midnight Sunday, the flames had burned over 18,000 acres inside a 32-miles perimeter, destroyed about a dozen cabins in the Fish Canyon area of Angeles National Forest and burned an abandoned lookout tower on Pine Mountain." (Eugene Register-Guard)
August 27, 1968: "No structures have burned other than 'some' cabins in Fish Canyon where a contingent of persons described by officers as hippies had to be chased out when the fire neared. An old fire lookout tower of the Forest Service atop Pine Mountain, abandoned for 20 years, was burned. Loss was put at $5,000. No other structures are in danger and no evacuations are planned."
