VENTURA COUNTY
MOUNT PINOS
.
September 25, 1927: "In spite of the fact that the trail up Mt. Pinos enjoys the distinction of being the highest road in southern California, it shows very few wheel tracks except those of the forest ranger and his deputies who use it as a lookout station for forest fires.
Perhaps one of the reasons that Mt. Pinos has so few visitors is because it has no press agent. Being the property of the government, it has not been exploited by sub-dividers, so its beauty and solitude are enjoyed by the wild creatures abounding there.
Although the summit of Mt. Pinos is 8835 feet in the air, the road goes only to the 8300-foot elevation." (Oakland Tribune)
