June 30, 1935: "Plans were completed with the State Division of Forestry for the construction of a cooperative lookout tower east of Olinda, Orange County. September 3, 1935: "The county supervisors today granted a permit to the state division of forestry for construction of a telephone line between the Yorba Linda state fire station and the Gilman peak lookout." (Santa Ana Register)
September 20, 1935: "Dedication of a new fire lookout tower of the latest type. on Gilman peak near the junction of Orange, San Bernardino and Los Angeles counties, will take place Saturday afternoon, according to Spence V. Turner, county forester and fire warden.
The tower will be dedicated to H.S. Gilman of San Dimas, southern California's representative on the state board of forestry, and one of the state's foremost conservationists. Ceremonies have been fixed for two o'clock." (Covina Argus)
September 22, 1935: "Lee Porter of Placentia opened dedication ceremonies yesterday for the new fire lookout tower on Gilman Peak." (Los Angeles Times)
June 30, 1936: "There was erected a lookout tower east of Olinda, Orange County, in cooperation with the State Division of Forestry. This tower was operated during fire season under the supervision of the State, and proved to be an extremely valuable adjunct to the protection system of the Department along the easterly area of the County."

July 21, 1936: "Harvey G. French has been appointed as fire lookout for the California Division of Forestry and will have headquarters at the lookout tower on Gilman Peak, overlooking Carbon cannon and the Yorba Linda-Olinda districts." (Santa Ana Register)
July 2, 1982: "Years ago fire sp[otters occupied a tall lookout tower on Gilman Peak, highest Orange County spot in the Chino Hills State Park area. The decrepit tower now stands as a temptation to occasional trespassers who into this area, although the bottom part of its metal ladder has been cut off to discourage climbers." (Chino Champion)
