May 31, 1951: "John Thomas of Happy Camp returned to his work with the Forest Service Monday as lookout at Ukonom." (Blue Lake Advocate)
September 21, 1961: "Mrs. Ida Lake returned to the Ukonom Mountain lookout Tuesday after the weekend with her sister, Mrs. Melissa Langford. Mrs. Lake is employed with the Klamath National Forest as lookout in the Ukonom District and was off duty over the weekend after the rainstorm." (Blue Lake Advocate)
October 17, 1963: "Mrs. Ida Lake of this community bagged a 5 point busk Sunday morning, October 6th, while hunting on Sugar Loaf Mountain. It weighed 180 pounds dressed out. Mrs. Lake will be 71 years old Tuesday, October 22. She is a noted marksman. She has worked a number of years for the Klamath National Forest in the Ukonom District as lookout on Ukonom Mountain and had just returned home October 5 from the lookout after spending the fire season there."
