August 25, 1933: "Delbert Bangs of McCloud and a crew of men from the Slagger C. C. C. camp are constructing an eighteen foot tower and lookout house on Bear Mountain near Bartle." (The Dunsmuir News)
October 30, 1936: "Mrs. Ollie Hitchcock and son of the Bear mountain lookout station were visitors in town a few days last week." (The Dunsmuir News)
July 19, 1956: "Jan (Graves) Moore and husband are working as a team on Bear Mt. this year. While he fights fire, she mans the lookout tower." (The Dunsmuir News)
June 11, 1959: "Bear Mountain lookout, 30 miles east of McCloud is the second USFS McCloud ranger district to be manned this season. Mrs. Ray Leffel is temporary lookout. She was there last fire season." (The Dunsmuir News)
2008: This state lookout was staffed by the Forest Service while the Black Fox Lookout was closed for maintenance.

A STANDARD LOOKOUT HOUSE THAT IS SITTING ON THE TOP OF AN ENCLOSED
WOODEN TOWER THAT IS 20 FEET HIGH. IT IS ON THE HIGHEST POINT OF
BEAR MOUNTAIN. THE OBJECT THAT WAS LOCATED IS THE CENTER OF THE
BASE OF THE LOOKOUT TOWER.
