January 17, 1957: "An increase of more than 10 million dollars for national parks was recommended yesterday in President Eisenhower's budget for the year beginning next July 1.
The hike principally is for construction and for management and protection of the parks as the influx of visitors continues to mount.
The budget asks for $17,622,600 for construction of major roads and trails, including: Sentinel Ridge lookout station, $14,100." (The Times - San Mateo)
