July 31, 1913: "The recent electrical storm that swept over Scott valley and Scott River canyon demonstrated the efficiency of the lookout and telephone system of the Forest service. The lightning started several fires which were promptly located by the ranger on duty at the Marble Mountain lookout station." (Siskiyou Daily News)
September 25, 1923: "Deputy Supervisor Douthitt submitted a report on his inspection of the Scott River District. The Iron phone at the Marble Mountain Lookout is not working. 'I phoned Trail Superintendent Bigelow to bring in a portable telephone to be used until the iron phone can be repaired.' A shelter should be built for protection of the phone."
