June 30, 1936: "A detection survey was completed and plans laid for the construction of a lookout tower to be erected near the Kern-Los Angeles County line in cooperation with the State Division of Forestry, this tower being essential to meet detection requirements in the mountains lying at the westerly end of Antelope Valley." December 1936: "In December the Val Verde S.E.R.A. camp was moved to Oso Canyon in the northern part of the County where, under severe weather conditions, the Tejon Lookout Tower and Observer's cabin were erected." (Los Angeles County Forestry Department Annual Report - Fiscal Year ending 6/30/1937)
June 30, 1937: "Near the northern boundary of the County, a lookout tower known as the 'Tejon Tower' was erected, with direct visibility into Pine Canyon and portions of Kern and Ventura Counties, including Los Padres and Angeles National Forests, not covered by other towers. Because of the mutual benefits to these areas, an observer is maintained by cooperation between the three Counties."
